Avoid floor vents

Anyone know if it's possible to detect or avoid floor vents? My X60 can't figure out how to work around them. Sometimes thinks it's a spill, sometimes a piece of paper! There's been times when it will try to work on "cleaning" them for several minutes.

Mine has the same problem..it'll hover over them for a long time I have to manually move it. I haven't figured it out yet.
