Our vac is leaving twists of rug fiber on the floor. What do I need to do differently?

Mine did this, turned out the vacuum sucked up a stick and was blocking the hair/dirt from being sucked into the vacuum bag when docked. Removed the intrusion and it worked perfectly with nothing left behind.

My vacuum is no longer auto emptying the dirt bin even thought the setting is applied for that.
