How do I get my X 50 to vacuum a shag carpet?

I find it very hard to believe that $1000+ vacuum can’t vacuum shag carpet. I have a 1 inch pile carpet that my X50 will climb onto, look around for about 10 minutes, drain its battery about 20%, and then go back to the dock listing that the area is completed. It doesn’t move, it just spins. What’s going on?
