Can robot vacuums scratch wooden floors? Here's what you need to know 🧹

Content:

We've recently received a few reports about robot vacuums potentially scratching wooden floors. We totally understand the concern — your floor is an important investment, and we want to help you protect it.

Short answer:
Under normal operating conditions, Dreame robot vacuums will not scratch wooden floors or floor coatings.

Why?
The components that come into direct contact with the floor during cleaning are all made of soft materials:

  • Floating main brush (soft bristles)

  • Microfiber mop pads

  • Rubber side brushes

  • Thickened noise-reducing rubber on drive wheels & universal wheel

There are no metal or hard protruding parts that touch the floor during operation. So from design to testing, we've ensured safe and gentle cleaning on most floor surfaces.

One important thing to keep in mind ⚠️

If your floor has larger particles like sand, gravel, small metal objects, or other hard debris, the robot may pick these up or trap them underneath during cleaning. As the robot moves, these particles could rub against the floor and potentially cause scratches — not because of the robot itself, but because of the debris it encounters.

Our recommendation:
Before running your robot, do a quick sweep for visible hard debris (especially on hard floors). A little prep goes a long way in keeping both your floors and your robot happy.
