What is the trick with replacing the side brush?

I can’t find much information on the web regarding the issue of whether I have got the whole side brush off my vacuum or not!  I found one piece of information that says you have to get the whole White part pulled up and all I got was the very top bit, which is flexible with the brushes on it and so the new ones that I ordered that were meant to fit my machine of course can’t fit on because I don’t think I’ve got the whole thing pulled off, but I’m very nervous about going in there with pliers to get this thing off when there’s only one little piece of information on the web telling me that’s what I should do!!

I have a L10s ultra, but I wasn’t able to select that from the list when I was trying to post this question, so I selected the Gen2.
