Vacuum bin did not empty

How often and when does it empty from the base to the docking bin?  I cleaned the whole house and when it docked, nothing happened.  I pulled it out and the bin in the vacuum was packed!!!  Checked the app settings and it should have docked and emptied when it was full. It never tried to dock and as I said never emptied when the job was finished.  I emptied it myself.  I was impressed with how full it was but also concerned how much it left.
