Auto emptying on L40 stops without warning

My L40 has been stuck without emptying twice in 2 months ans I discovered it accidentally. I have small children and it was a puzzle piece then a pencil that had blocked the vaccum emptying path that prevented auto-emptying.

My much cheaper vacuum warns me if it cannot auto empty but L40 does not. Seems like a missed feature.
