emptying the on board basket weekly to prevent clog

Is there a way to help my vacuum get the pet hair from the onboard basket into the collection dust bin bag. If I have to empty this every week to prevent it clogging up and not vacuuming correctly why did I buy the unit with the auto emptying feature. If I have to empty the basket once a week anyway and there’s nothing ever in the bag on my collection unit I should’ve just bought a cheaper version and just emptied it daily myself.
